The problem

Launched in 2017, Trust won users with smart functionality like their “automatically tokens” feature, which instantly reveals ERC-20 tokens associated with a user’s address without needing to input details of the contract address. As a product known for simple UX that speaks to both seasoned crypto users and beginners, the rise of custom parameters on ERC-20 tokens, like buy/sell tax, became a major pain point in their swap feature.

The rise of memecoins has led to an explosion of tokens with a buy or sell tax, also known as fee-on-transfer tokens (FoT), with ~25% of DEX users now trading these tokens on Ethereum. Buy/sell taxes throw a wrench into well built swap products, leading to not only high error and revert rates, causing headaches for developers, but also inaccurate quotes, leading to poor user experiences.

Revert rates for trades that include tokens with buy/sell taxes on top aggregators can reach as high as 30% and aggregators often exclude taxes in quotes, potentially misleading users about the final amount they will receive.

Trust needed an aggregation API with robust support for tokens with buy/sell taxes and comprehensive coverage of EVM chains, with the ability to quickly expand to new chains as they gain traction. Their search led them to 0x v2.
